OF HOUSTON (These bylaws were originally adopted in 1978 and modified in 1992,1994, 1995 and 2002.) Article I This Chapter of the American Humanist Association shall be known as "Humanists of Houston" (HOH). Article II The purpose of the chapter is to provide an educational, ethical, philosophical and/or religious forum for its members. Our primary concern will be to strive for the application of Humanist principles in all of our plans and activities. We will apply the principles of democracy in our organization as we work toward the goals of the American Humanist Association. Article III Any member of the American Humanist Association who agrees with our purpose may request membership. After acceptance by the chapter and payment to the American Humanist Association of the current dues, this person will be a voting member. Persons who are not members of the AHA may be granted associate membership of the chapter upon payment of such dues as the Chapter may determine from time to time, and after acceptance by the Chapter. Any member may be expelled by a majority vote of the Executive Board of the Humanists of Houston, but only after the member has been given an opportunity to be heard. A member so expelled may appeal to the general membership of the Humanists of Houston, which may affirm, modify or reverse the action of the Executive Board by a majority vote of those attending a hearing, provided a quorum is present. Article IV The officers of the chapter shall be: a. President, The duties of the officers shall be defined by the membership of the chapter through adoption of a statement of policy. The chapter may appoint other members to special duties as required. These officers shall comprise the Executive Board and shall conduct the affairs of the organization between membership meetings. Article V The annual meeting of the chapter for the election of officers will be held in November, with terms to commence on January 1st of the next year. Annual dues will be set at this meeting. Article VI A quorum shall consist of twenty five (25) percent of the voting membership, with a minimum of five (5) members, and must be present to conduct official business. A change to these By -Laws shall require notification of the membership in writing, at least ten (10) days in advance, and approval by two thirds (2/3) of the members present at a subsequent meeting. These By -Laws supercede all previous rules and directives. Article VII The Executive Board shall meet at the call of the President or three (3) of its members, or upon petition of one fourth (1/4) of the general membership. A quorum for an Executive Board Meeting shall be three (3) of the Board Members. Article VIII All questions of procedure not covered in these articles shall be governed by Robert's Rules of Order (latest edition). Adopted as
