2 prominent Humanist/Atheists, and
"The Human Lifestance"

The program will concentrate on two videos of interviews with some prominent atheists along with an excellent overview of "The Humanist Lifestance." One video is from Bill Moyers' new PBS program "Bill Moyers Journal" where he interviews Jonathan Miller. The subject mainly was a description and short clips from Jonathan's BBC program from 2004 titled "A Brief history of Disbelief." The second video is from a Charlie Rose show where he interviews Christopher Hitchens and discusses  Hitchen's new book, "God Is Not Great."

Balancing the two atheists criticisms of faith-based religions is "The Humanist Lifestance" by Bob Finch, which provides a cogent overview of Humanism including basic principles, morality, virtues, and several other important aspects. This presentation will be valuable both to people relatively news to Humanism as well as those  already familiar with it.

Come join us at our monthly meeting that includes fellowship, refreshments, and the main program followed by an open discussion.

HOH Elections and Discussion of Five-Year Plan

November is the Gathering in which HOH members elect their officers and often vote on other matters. We will be voting on President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We will also be voting for a member of the Development Committee and on a newly drafted Five-Year Plan (5YP). Please take a moment to review the plan before attending [LINK HERE].

Before voting on the 5YP, we will be having a presentation and discussion of it. This plan will have a great impact on who HOH will be and what we will be doing as an organization in the near and far future. After discussion and possible amendments, we will have an up or down vote on the document. This document will be released soon to the membership so they'll have a chance to view it before the Gathering. While only dues-paying members may officially vote - the input, ideas, and participation of all attendees is encouraged, including new faces!

SPECIAL WELCOME GATHERING!

ALL NEWCOMERS AND THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY MADE CONTACT WITH HOH ARE WELCOME TO COME AND MEET WITH LONGTIME MEMBERS AT THIS SPECIAL 'WELCOME' GATHERING!

Why this Gathering is Special, and why YOU shouldn't miss it:

1) New Location:
We will be holding our first City-Wide Gathering in our new location at Bayland Community Center.

2) New Format:
This Gathering will be a celebration party! We won't have a strict format or program, but instead will have a more loose get together with snacks, music, and socializing. We want to get to know you and for you to get to know us!

3) Newcomers:
For those new to the group, those who have only attended a few times, or those who haven't attended at all - this Gathering will not only be a welcoming party for you, but we'll say a few words and answer a few questions about Humanism and its history here in Houston. We also want to hear from you what it is you're looking for in a group!

4) Longtimers:
For our longtime members, it is also important that you come because YOU are the ones who we need there to welcome the new people. We want to hear from you about your past with HOH and messages for the new folks.

So please come out to see the things happening at HOH! Everyone is welcome :)
