HOW YOU CAN HELP!

Many Humanists, atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers are excited about the community we are building here in Houston - and they're excited about the idea of promoting rationality in society. But the things HOH is doing require much more than simply attending events and chatting.

We have no paid staff and are entirely volunteer run. That means, even with dues and contributions of money - it's the availability of helping hands that are our biggest limitation. Who are the volunteers? People just like you!

We hear quite a lot of ideas that begin with "You guys should..." but someone really isn't going to get as much out of HOH as they could, until they start thinking of themselves as part of "you guys".

If HOH isn't what you want in a Humanist & Freethought Community - then help us build it!

Here are some of the many ways you can best be proactive in helping the mission of Humanism and rationality in the Houston-area:

• Let us know you'd like to volunteer some time helping to organize events, whether it be a special event or a regular event - even if you don't yet have a clear idea of just where, when, or how you'd like to participate!

• Let us know if you'd like to be an organizer of a Regional Gathering.

• Volunteer to help organize and/or run a Children's Program for HOH.

• Tell us if you'd like to organize a new HOH Club centered on a special topic of interest.

• Think of your own ideas for things you can do to help promote HOH and its causes locally, given your own unique talents, contacts, and interests - and let us know.

• Spread the word about HOH by telling others, putting links in your email signatures, forum posts, on your websites, on your MySpace and Facebook pages, using HOH T-Shirts, bumper stickers, and other merchandise, and so on.

Remember that, while we appreciate memberships, donations, and input - the thing we have the greatest need of is action!

In addition to action, other ways you can help are through your attendance and by becoming a Patron of HOH.
