IDEAS
CLUB
The Ideas Club, which is more than
just a book club, meets to discuss important ideas in the philosophy of
humanism and freethought. A book is often the subject matter of a session,
but having read it is not required. Instead, the group discusses the ideas
in the book, after the presenter has outlined its content and general
positions.
Previous
program topics have included: The God Delusion (Dawkins), Breaking the
Spell (Dennett), An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (Hume),
Christianity Without God (Geering), The Singularity is Near (Kurzweil),
The group was started in 1998 by the former Houstonians
for Secular Humanism (HSH). Afterwards, the
group goes to lunch.
For the
full time and details of the next Ideas Club, please see our calendar
page. To get a monthly notice of the topics and schedule from the
Club's organizer, please contact Ed Barr at e3_barr@yahoo.com, also see the Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Houston_Ideas_Club
