Authoritarianism

Two of the key principals of Humanism are: the "extension of participatory democracy and the expansion of the open society", and "the maximization of individual liberty and opportunity".

Instances of Censorship Through History:

History of Censorship
The long and difficult road to knowledge in an open society is access to information -- particularly those whose views are different. We learn from each other. And those who see human beings as objects to be controlled, rather than as actors searching for truth, have never rested in their efforts to curb the probings of open minds.... Censorship is one of their tools.

Neoconservatism:

But that's very incomplete....

Origin of the Specious: Why Do Neoconservatives Doubt Darwin?

An interesting article about how the Neoconsevative movement pioneered by Irving Kristol and Leo Strauss beleives that "religion is essential for maintaining social discipline" and therefore supports attacks by the Religious Right on the theory of evolution -- for Neoconservatism's own political ends.

Here's some more...

This brief article lays out the basics of Neo-Conservatism... disturbing but interesting.
